This is a very early Geologic piece with deep carving that started to show ledges, form and movement.  There is a connection to the ocean in this piece that moved me forward.  The salt firing was perfect---not always an easy thing to achieve.

No.301

Thrown stoneware, deep carved "shell ledges", Cone 10

13 x 7 x 7         $2,500

This is also an early salt glazed pot carved with different tools than what I usually used, and in a much freer, flowing pattern.  It is also one of the larger vase forms that I made.

These two salt glazed pieces of pottery are significant markers in my carving development.

Bay of Fundy is where my first terra sigillata came from.  I used it as a slip glaze in the salt kiln, and one day as I was trying to rub some glaze off the edge of a small pot, the glaze just started to shine instead of powder off.  It was a "Eureka!" moment.  My exploration and journey of terra sigillata continued on from there.
